Emilie Cayer-Huard will be joining Destination BC in the acting role of Manager, Destination Development – Iconics on February 7th, 2022. Emilie is joining us from her long-time role as Destination Development & Stewardship Specialist with Kootenay Rockies Tourism.
Emilie, along with the Destination BC team and her regional colleagues at Kootenay Rockies Tourism (KRT), has been involved since day one of our joint journey to create 19 Destination Development plans for all corners of the province. Emilie has been spearheading the implementation efforts in the KR region, with success in building bridges between tourism and the economic development community, leveraging funding for communities, and developing accessibility and sustainability programming for her region, to name just a few.
Emilie joined KRT in 2011 as the Community Development Specialist and then moved to the Destination Development & Stewardship portfolio. Born in Quebec, Emilie travelled to France in 2003 to work in the ski industry for one season but worked and studied there for several more years. Her international experience includes destination development projects in mountain and rural areas, including mountain hut networks and Nordic areas development programs in the French Alps, international cruises in Quebec, and Electric Vehicle Travel programs in BC. She completed her master’s degree in Geography, specializing in Sustainable Tourism and Stakeholders Dynamics from the Institut de Geographie Alpine in Grenoble in 2009. She lives in Kimberley where she takes every opportunity to explore, ski, climb, and bike with her husband and daughter. In her spare time, you can also find Emilie coaching groups of little kids on Nordic skis or pitching in on several community groups and committees.
