Destination BC Appoints Alison McKay As Vice President, Destination Management

Destination BC is thrilled to announce that Alison McKay has been appointed to the permanent role of Vice President, Destination Management at Destination BC.

Since January 2022, Alison has served as Acting Vice President, Destination Management and consistently demonstrated her strengths and capabilities while leading a comprehensive range of portfolio areas for the Destination Management division including Destination Development, Industry Development, Visitor Services, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility, Indigenous and Regional Partnerships, Vancouver, Coast & Mountains tourism region, Invest in Iconics, Cooperative Marketing, and Municipal Regional District Tax programs.

During her tenure, Alison has developed strong relationships with our colleagues in core government, communities, destination management organizations, sectors, and tourism businesses to enhance the global competitiveness of BC’s travel experiences. Alison has been an integral part of our Executive Leadership team and brings unwavering focus when it comes to supporting the revitalization of a strong and sustainable tourism sector for British Columbia.

Alison joined Destination BC in 2006 as a member of the Research department. During her 16-year tenure, she has taken on progressively senior roles to broaden her knowledge and skills across diverse portfolio areas. Her career highlights include partnering with RDMOs and Ministry staff to create a new provincial destination development program; and developing provincial, regional and local area strategies in cooperation with Indigenous communities, residents, businesses, economic development agencies, government and the tourism industry.

Alison holds a Masters of Applied Environmental Studies: Tourism Policy & Planning from the University of Waterloo. She is an active volunteer in her local youth soccer and lacrosse communities, and sits on the board of the Invasive Species Council of BC. During her free time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family in their home of Coquitlam, on the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples and the Kwikwetlem First Nation.
