Key themes that have been highlighted in this planning area’s Destination Development strategy are: stewardship and social commitment, aspiring to be an inspiration for sustainable tourism globally, and ensuring the protection of natural, cultural, heritage and spiritual places. With those matters in mind, the Sea to Sky Destination Management Council chose to focus on developing a destination education initiative to encourage responsible and respectful travel.
The destination education sub-committee successfully applied to the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) for $366,000 in grant funding to create and implement a campaign that reminds everyone to be mindful of the impact their behaviour has on the Sea-to-Sky Corridor’s delicate ecosystems.
The Don’t Love it to Death campaign launched with social and paid media components in phase one. Phase two will include signage in key locations. This campaign is being built in a way that’s adaptable to other communities that are facing the same challenges.
