Destination BC is expanding its popular Tourism Digital Academy to include a self-guided version of the program for those who require the flexibility of working at their own pace and on their own schedule, to ensure BC tourism professionals, throughout the province, get the training they need.

Designed for BC-based tourism business owners or their marketing team members, the Tourism Digital Academy – Self-Guided is a free, intermediate-level digital marketing program focused on preparing businesses to compete in the digital space and grow their sales when travel restrictions are eased.

The Self-Guided program provides six months of access to digital marketing instruction videos, templates and resources focused on practical, actionable guidance to set participants on the path to completing a digital marketing plan.
The expert-led video content covers key digital marketing and technology needs, to help businesses increase demand and sales, improve digital efficiency, and remain competitive – from goal setting, to building a better understanding of SEO, website usability, content, email marketing, analytics and more.

Participants can register for the Self-Guided program anytime to gain access to eight 1-hour videos and all the tools and resources available through the in-class version of the program.
Destination BC will be offering the in-class Tourism Digital Academy again in Fall 2021 and Winter 2022, with applications for the Fall intakes opening in August 2021.

Quotes:

Honourable Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture & Sport
“When you support small businesses, you support the people and the communities that make up our beautiful province. The expanded Tourism Digital Academy offers an effective, flexible training option to help more small businesses gain intermediate-level digital marketing skills to transform multiple facets of their business. This was a call to action and is an important step forward in enabling small businesses and the people behind those businesses, recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Richard Porges, Interim President & CEO, Destination BC
“Destination BC is focused on supporting tourism businesses through our industry’s recovery and beyond. Owing to the success of our popular Tourism Digital Academy — which filled a gap for intermediate-level digital training for BC tourism businesses — we are pleased to be able to expand the offering to those who need a flexible pace of learning, because of the nature of their work. The Self-Guided program will help tourism businesses keep pace with the accelerated digital transformation we’re seeing throughout the economy, confidently adjust their online activities to ongoing digital marketing trends, and stay competitive.”

Participant Testimonials about the in-class Tourism Digital Academy:

“After 8 weeks I completed the Destination BC Tourism Digital Academy. It was possibly the busiest time of the year, but time spent with instructors and after hours was incredibly valuable to me. After a season filled with chaos and ever changing work environments, this course helped get me back on track with marketing strategy and goals and I would highly recommend anyone in the BC Tourism sector to sign up for updates for the Spring intake”
Mike Riediger, Executive Director, Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association

“Destination BC’s Digital Tourism Academy has been extremely beneficial in helping us improve key areas of our digital marketing including our website and social media advertising through in-depth tutorials and hands-on assignments. The program has allowed us to better understand how visitors interact with our business online which is very valuable in nurturing the customer journey and increasing visitation to our destination.”
Kelsey Archibald, Communications & Digital Marketing Manager, Destination Osoyoos
