Earlier this month, Destination BC along with Destination Canada and Travel Alberta, participated in the World Winter Sports Expo in Beijing to show Chinese consumers the unique charm of Canadian winter. Ten additional Canadian partners joined the Expo, including six exhibitors from BC—Via Rail Canada, Tourism Whistler, Baldy Mountain Resort, Apex Mountain Resort, Canadian Grand Holidays, and TPI Canada.
Throughout the four-day show, Destination BC and our partners showcased skiing in BC and other winter experiences. One of the activity highlights was a media sharing session held on the afternoon of October 17, launching a video story of the world’s top figure skating pair, Pang Qing and Tong Jian, who won silver in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and returned to BC as tourists last winter.
The Pavilion’s design was another highlight at the show. In addition to the partners stands, the pavilion also featured dedicated areas for 360 video experiences, photo-taking, and onsite workshops where BC partners conducted seven workshop sessions over the four days.
The expo presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase BC’s ski and other winter experiences, which is a booming industry in China ahead of the 2022 Beijing Olympics. As the premier expo promoted by the Chinese government focusing on winter sports, WWSE 2019 saw more than 600 domestic and worldwide exhibitors including the destination marketing organizations of Finland, Canada, Austria, and Italy. An estimated 160,000 people visited the Expo during the four days.
