Destination BC has a well-developed program to work with travel media – journalists or outlets who specialize in telling travel and lifestyle stories – to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. Travel media relations is an essential marketing channel to tell our brand story, build awareness, and encourage travellers to visit BC.
In the month of June 2024, we tracked 26 pieces of coverage for destinations in the province with an estimated 5.87 million combined views. Here are a few examples of those stories and how Destination BC supported them:
The New York Times — Taking the Long Way Home From Alaska
New York Times columnist Elaine Glusac took a personal interest in the region, embarking on a family road trip that was the basis for this story. Destination BC and regional partners were able to support the inclusion of BC in the story through itinerary recommendations and supporting imagery.
This story features communities and experiences in Northern BC, including Liard Hot Springs, Dawson Creek, and in the Kootenays, including Kootenay National Park, Marble Canyon, Radium Hot Springs, and the city of Kimberly.
Condé Nast Traveler — Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Whistler for Spring
From spring skiing to bear safaris, helicopter sightseeing, and Indigenous crafts, this story highlights reasons to visit Whistler during the spring should-season. Featured attractions include the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, Blackcomb Helicopters, Whistler Mountain Bike Park, and number of restaurants and accommodations.

AAA Traveler Worldwide — 7 Must-See Sights in Vancouver
Featured in AAA’s online travel magazine, this article resulted from a group press trip to Vancouver and Vancouver Island hosted by Destination BC in close collaboration with Destination Vancouver and other regional partners. It highlights seven popular attractions around Vancouver including Capilano Suspension Bridge, Vandusen Botanical Gardan and Dr Sun Yet Sen Classical Chinese Garden.
