To help Regional and City Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) in BC deepen their understanding of how residents view tourism in their communities, Destination BC is currently offering two opportunities to partner on our annual Resident Perceptions of tourism Research Survey.

Highlights from the 2024 Snow Travel Expo in Australia
|
Destination BC joined partners and ski resorts from across BC, under the Canada Pavilion organized by Destination Canada, at the Snow Travel Expo in Melbourne on May 19 and Sydney May 26 to promote ski travel for the upcoming 2024/25 winter season. This year's event was a great success with a total consumer attendance of 12,000+.

New Destination Development Case Studies from Destination BC and Partners

We have published a new collection of destination development case studies that highlight innovative tourism practices and their positive impact on visitors and residents.
Produced in collaboration with regional and local tourism industry partners, this series features two projects from each of the six tourism regions in BC and highlight the positive impacts of thoughtful destination development for BC communities.

The Great Wilderness Campaign Launches in California
|
Destination BC launched The Great Wilderness with a digital campaign throughout May and June in California to inspire adventure travellers and road-trippers to visit this new Iconic area.
The campaign includes paid media through Connected TV, YouTube, Meta and Google from May 15 to June 30. Additional marketing activities include content partnerships with Outside Magazine and Travel and Leisure. Destination BC participated in the International Media Marketplace in New York earlier this year to promote The Great Wilderness and is planning a travel media event in Los Angeles this fall.

Destination BC and Partners Host Spring Familiarization Tours for Singapore Market
|
To support the awareness of Air Canada's new direct route between Vancouver and Singapore, Destination BC teamed up with Air Canada, Destination Vancouver, Tourism Richmond, Vancouver Hotel Destination Association, and Vancouver International Airport to bring four key tour operators from Singapore to meet in person at Rendez-vous Canada 2024 in Edmonton, and then travel to Richmond and Vancouver for two familiarization tours.

Last Call! Register Today for BCTCRI Climate Resilience & Disaster Preparedness Workshop
|
This workshop is being hosted through the BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative Project 4, designed to establish a provincial network across BC to advance the sustainable development of BC's tourism industry.
The workshop will cover topics ranging from the current state of preparedness for disasters like drought, wildfires, extreme heat, floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis, the important role communities play in disaster preparedness, and emergency resources available for BC’s tourism industry.
This virtual workshop on Climate Resilience & Disaster Preparedness on June 19th, 10am-12pm (PDT).

Water Conservation Tourism Industry Toolkit
|
BC’s tourism industry can play an important role in championing water conservation, inspiring both residents and visitors to protect one of our most precious resources. Every drop counts, and by recognizing and promoting our shared responsibility, together, we can protect the destinations we love.
To help support industry partners in this collective work, the Tourism Emergency Management Committee has created a Water Conservation Industry Toolkit, complete with resources, shareable graphics, tips, messaging, and steps that industry partners - including businesses - can take, to promote and take part in responsible water use.

Strengthening Crisis Communications in BC: EmergencyInfoBC Website Redesign
|
Our partners at the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness have been making some important updates to key information sources to support improved emergency preparedness and response.
They recently released the redesigned EmergencyInfoBC website, which has been designed to be reliable, mobile-first, adhere to digital accessibility standards, color-coded approach, and easy to find relevant content.

Visitor Arrivals (IVA) data from Mexico shared by Destination BC's Research team show full-year arrivals for BC in 2023 surpassed those of 2022 and a strong first quarter in 2024.
Despite the implementation of new visa requirements for travellers from Mexico at the end of February 2024, BC showed significant growth compared to the same period in 2023 and 2022.

BC Government Improves Emergency Support Services
|
The Province is introducing several improved measures stemming from the Premier’s Expert Task Force on Emergencies in order to provide additional and faster support for people evacuated from their homes during an emergency.
New measures include accommodation allowance of $200/night, a new Interac e-transfer payment option, and redesigned EmergencyInfoBC website to improve user experience and mobile navigation.

National Indigenous Peoples Day:

For generations, many Indigenous groups and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on June 21, or around that time of year, because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
This is also the day we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, when we intentionally recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across Canada.

BC Family Fishing Weekend is an annual celebration that coincides with Father’s Day weekend every June. Family friendly community events are being held across the province and residents of Canada can try fishing for free. In 2024, the three-day event falls on June 14th to 16th.
